Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)Charles De Gaulle Airport (Aéroport de Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle,(CDG)), also known as Roissy Airport, is actually the Top international airport in the French Republic. CDG is located in the area of Roissy-en-France, approx. 23 km north-east of Paris city center. CDG started operations in 1974, and is considered the busiest airport in Europe after Heathrow Airport, in London for airplane traffic. CDG is the biggest and busiest Airport within the European Union, and Globally It is the tenth busiest airport worldwide serving almost 80 million passengers in 2019 according to statistics.

The CDG airport consists if 3 major terminals within the airport complex. There is a free service shuttle named CDGVAL that shuttles around all the terminals as in the above diagram to help passengers reach their next flight within the CDG boundaries.

Terminal 1

CDGVAL shuttle stops at the ground level, and then you need to go up a level for check-in desks, then another level up to board your flight, and finally the arrivals flights are welcomed at the top floor.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 is the largest terminal consisting of seven different buildings named – Terminals 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F & 2G. The largest is Terminal 2E which is divided more into three large Halls K, L, and M. You will find at Terminal 2 also the TGV high speed train station, and RER train station to Paris city center. You can walk amongst Terminals 2A, 2B, 2C, and 2D. You can take the free shuttle named N1 (navette) to travel among Terminals 2A, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F. For Terminals 2F and 2G you can take the N2 shuttle.

Terminal 3

At Terminal 3 also called at some posts the Roissypole/Terminal 3 there is a shuttle that can take you to hotels and stops at the RER train station. Please be prepared when you reach Terminal 3 by the CDGVAL shuttle stop, there will be long walking needed by following the bright line noticeable on the sidewalk. It will take around ten minutes walk to reach the Terminal 3 building.

General Advices

If you have a departing flight from CDG, Please pay attention to your terminal number, and if it is Terminal 2 must pay attention also to the letter next to Number 2 which you can find printed on the ticket/boarding pass. For Terminal 2E, there will be extra letters to indicate the three large and different gates of K, L, or M.

Please permit sufficient time before your flight. By sufficient time we mean 3-4 hrs. to arrive to CDG before departure time if you are outside your terminal, and 2-3 hrs. If your present in your correct terminal before your flight time. You need to calculate that after the luggage check-in (around an hour normally), and passing through security (takes an hour on a quite day), either you will need to take another shuttle or a long walk in order to reach the correct gate. This may take another hour if any disruption happens.

Most International flights are now directed to Terminal 2 because of the limited flying traffic currently. Please find below two maps for terminal 2E for your reference:

It is strongly recommended if you have an early morning departure flight from CDG, or just a connecting flight after some hours of layover, or need to take the second leg of your trip by the TGV high speed train, you really need to think about spending the night, or a good few hours rest at a hotel within the CDG airport compound. Countless examples and experiences from heavy travelers agree that CSG is actually a city by itself within metropolitan Paris and traveling takes time with so many unexpected disruptions that might happen outside or inside CDG complex.
