The mission’s aim was to secure many valuable books to enrich the newly built archive at the Oxford University. Since the middle of the seventeenth century, with the Catholic church anti-Reformation religious movement efforts, which were the first censorship acts established by the creation of the Index of Forbidden Books deemed by the Catholic church unsuitable for public reading. This effort dealt a heavy blow to the Catholic city of Frankfurt and its great Fair, but gave prominence to the Protestant city of Leipzig book fairs which were free of any censorship. Frankfurt city managed to revive its famous book fair past in 1949 when more than two hundred German publishers assembled the first post-WW II Frankfurter Buchmesse.
