What is a Travel Agency?

A travel agency is a commercial company or public entity that offers transport and leisure facilities to the general public on behalf of hotels or transportation providers. Travel agencies that include outdoor leisure programs, airlines, car & bus rental companies, cruise ships, hotels, train services, travel insurance, package tours, insurance, guidebooks, public transit schedules, car rental and exchange office services. Travel companies can often act as general selling representatives for airlines that do not have offices in a particular area. The key role of a travel agency is to serve as an agent, to offer travel goods and services on behalf of a supplier. They will not have an inventory in hand because they have pre-booked hotel rooms or cabins on a cruise ship for a community travel experience such as a reception, honeymoon or other community experience.
