Ghent is loved by locals and visitors alike. There is great art, great food and it's one of the best kept secrets in the countries. Ghent also feels relatively small compared to other European cities and is not crowded by visitors and sightseers, despite being a great place to take a break. The ancient city of Ghent has built up a range of attractions over the centuries, from cozy medieval quarters to contemporary masterpieces of architecture. Our bus company will be delighted to show you Ghent which is perfect blend of industry and medieval architecture.
The next move is to pick your accommodation in Ghent Belgium. Ghent is a relatively small town, and Brussels Grand Place is just 40 minutes away, so most visitors are visiting Ghent and nearby Bruges on a day trip from the capital. This medieval town of Flanders, however, has plenty to give to the intrepid traveler who wants more than a day trip to Ghent. It is one of Belgium's best places to stay, as you can easily access other cities by rental bus for day trips.

When you are planning to visit Ghent with a group Coach Charter Europe is your bus company partner. We are a family-owned bus company with over 40 years of coach travel experience. Trust us, as we are the experts on party and bus journeys. We can offer transfers from airport to hotel with our airport shuttle and we can offer day tours with our tour bus.

Find here our top 10 places to go to in Ghent:

1. MSK

The MSK art gallery is housed in what looks like a temple from Ancient Greece. The artwork will soon remind you, however, that in fact you are still in Belgium due to the large number of works by artists from Belgian and Low Counties. The tour bus has to admit the permanent collections are constantly backed up by a series of notable temporary exhibits.

2. Patershol

Patershol is a well-hidden host of many great restaurants, the former site of the Ghent leather traders. From this time, the winding cobbled streets and houses have not changed much and are a perfect way to see what Ghent was like many years ago. Our tour bus recommends visit there cozy restaurants, galleries and an old-fashioned candy store.

3. Castle of Counts

This 12th-century fortress in the middle of the old town was constructed by Count Filips of the Elzas as a show of strength to combat the great houses being built by the wealthy patricians of Ghent. A visit to the torture chambers in the cellars further reinforces a somber mood inside.

4. Sint-Pietersabdij Abbey

One of Belgium's largest abbeys, the St Pietersabdij has long been the nucleus of Ghent and the city has started to expand outward from the abbey. The chartered bus recommends the orchards and gardens are free to explore and are a great place to be on a summer’s day.

5. St Baafskathedraal

This cathedral is the birthplace of the Mystic Lamb's Adoration mentioned above but it also deserves a visit on its own merits. The mural is well worth seeing in the building's crypts as is the original Rubens artwork on display. If you take a look at the Mystic Lamb's Adoration but don't mind queuing, a print of the work is on display in chapel 30.

6. Huis van Alijn

The bus rental has to say you should watch some home movies there. This house had formerly been a hospice for children. This has since been rebuilt and is a wonderful museum showing what life was like in town from the end of the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century. Old wedding photos and family videos are also available which prove to be surprisingly emotional.

7. City Pavilion

The City Pavilion by Robbrecht en Daem and Marie-José Van Hee is a fantastic example of a modern structure successfully incorporated into a historic environment. While the timber market hall on concrete feet is almost over dimensioned, it does not seem disruptive to the view of Ghent's Belfry, nor to any of the old buildings around.

8. Shop at the Vrijdagmarkt

This square, which gets its name from the weekly market which still takes place every Friday, was once also the spot for public executions and important city meetings in the area. Bus rental service suggest you can take a place in one of the cafes and admire admiring the statue of Ghent’s famous leader.

9. Enjoy some Ghent Cuisine

As in all the major cities in Belgium, the food in Ghent is rich and tasty. Chartered bus has to admit there is something really for everybody and food lovers are going to fall right at home. Belgium is also a perfect place for chocolate if you have a sweet tooth, and Ghent is probably the best of the best. Make sure to try pralines before getting out of town

10. Stadhuis

This edifice stands out even in Ghent, a city with many beautiful buildings. The Stadhuis, or town hall, had taken nearly a century to build before it was eventually completed in 1600. The style is flamboyant and the structure is also called gothic with many names. The interior rooms are varied in style, but they are all stunningly furnished and preserved. Our bus company will be best partner exploring this popular spot for weddings.

Coach charter Europe airport shuttle will pick you and your group from Brussels Airport or any other place in and around the city.
