Top 10 attractions in The Styria with Irro Charter

Styria is a mountainous, forested state in the south of Austria, which is known for its wine, its medicinal springs and castles. The provincial capital Graz, located on a river, offers a mixture of Renaissance and Baroque architecture and modern buildings, such as the Murinsel, an artificial island made of glass and steel, and the seemingly extraterrestrial Kunsthaus, a museum of contemporary art. A cable car goes to the Schlossberg with the clock tower from the 16th century.

Styria
  1. Graz

Graz, the capital of Styria, is a beautiful, laid-back place to visit, situated along the Mur River and surrounded by fields and forests. Mountains, unlike many other towns in the state, can only be seen in the distance; its key geographical characteristic is the distinctive tree-clad Schlossberg Hill that lies at its centre. Austria's second-largest city has a abundance of fascinating and spectacular historical and cultural attractions to visit, with the marvelous Rathaus, Opera House, and Clock Tower being only a few of the highlights. Graz has a youthful and lively feel, due in part to its huge student population, and there are many exciting bars, restaurants, and shops to explore in addition to all of the great architecture on display.
  2. Schloss Eggenberg

This castle, which is in the city of Graz, has Renaissance features which date from the period of 1625, has stood since the period of its construction in the 14th year. The grounds and their magnificent gardens are appealing to roam aroud, and are embellished with frescoes and detailing. The gallery has a variety of striking works of art and pieces of sculpture.
  3. Murau

Lying in a valley between the mountain range of the Upper Tauern and the middle Gur Valley, the municipality of Mur is nestled next to a small forested area. Hence, it's a wonderful place to ride a bike or go for a hike. In the warmer months, the Stolzalpen and Metnberget mountains offer glorious alpine meadows, waterfalls, and pristine lakes—of which the latter is especially interesting because it's under a glacier.
  4. Erzberg

Erzberg, the largest open pit mine in Central Europe and is captivating to see; from a distance, you can see a mass of roads that have been carved into and covered almost every inch of the hillside. When viewed in the pristine mountains that surround the place, the scar on the landscape stands out even more.
  5. Skywalk Dachstein

If you're looking for a thrilling, adrenaline-filled experience while you're in the Styria region, then look no further than the Skywalk Dachstein. Protruding over a death-defying drop to the mountainside below, Dachstein's 'stairway to nothingness' has some of the most breathtaking views imaginable. In no time at all, you're going to forget all the space that divides you from the safe ground.

  7. Gruner See

The name "Green Lake" originated because of its emerald-green water. The clean and clear water comes from the snowmelt from the karst mountains and has a temperature of 6–7 °C (43–45 °F) The lake supports a variety of fauna, the flora is not abundant because of the rocky bottom of the lake. Due to the spike in tourist visits that has occurred and expected damage to this sensitive environment, the use of this lake for all watersports is prohibited.
  8. Riegersburg Castle

Riegersburg Castle, perched dramatically atop a dormant volcano overlooking the town of the same name, is epic and well worth a visit if you get the chance. The centuries-old castle, which is owned by the Princely Family of Liechtenstein, is filled with fascinating exhibits and objects. They will take you on a journey through its long and illustrious past, with some stunning staterooms on view. A lot of the rooms also focus on witchcraft and sorcery, as one of the former Baroness' handmaidens was arrested and executed for her alleged involvement in the dark arts. The medieval castle, which has been restored many times over the years, is protected by a number of walls, gates, and fortifications, and its position on top of a steep cliff face makes it appear almost impenetrable.
  9. Schladming

Schladming, located at the foot of the Dachstein Mountains, is a wonderful place to visit at any time of year. In the summer, its breathtaking scenery allows for great hiking and mountain climbing, while in the winter, its snowy slopes are a joy to ski or snowboard down. With a very quiet, laid-back vibe, the iconic resort town is the ideal place to unwind and immerse yourself in nature, with mountain biking and whitewater rafting also on offer. There are some excellent stores, restaurants, and spas scattered around Schladming, and the Heimatmuseum is well worth a visit if you want to learn about the town's mining history.
  10. Admont Abbey

Admont Abbey, which was founded in 1074, has long attracted tourists seeking to immerse themselves in peaceful contemplation. Its picturesque location on the outskirts of the Gesause National Park, surrounded by mountains, is definitely idyllic and quiet. While the original monastery was almost completely destroyed by fire, the present neo-Gothic structure dates from the late nineteenth century. The abbey's magnificent library hall is unquestionably the highlight, and every surface of what is the world's largest monastery library is a work of art.
  11. Bad Aussee

Bad Aussee is awash with spectacular natural sights, nestled among rolling hills and valleys with dramatic mountains in the distance – and that's without even mentioning the two glittering alpine lakes that lie just a short distance away from the area.
