Top 10 attractions in Tampere with Irro Charter

Tampere is a city in southern Finland. It lies between the two lakes Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi, which are connected by the Tammerkoski rapids. The Vapriikki Museum Center includes the Natural History Museum and an exhibition on the Finnish Civil War of 1918. Tampere Cathedral is known for its macabre frescoes. The Kaleva Church, built of concrete, looks like a fish when viewed from above. Tampere is a city mostly ignored by visitors in central Finland, many of whom never travel beyond Helsinki. However, by spending just a few hours traveling north of Helsinki, tourists can encounter a very different form of Finnish city and many new sights and experiences.

  1. The Finnish Hokey Hall of Fame

The Finns are crazy at hockey, which is why Tampere is home to one of only six sports museums in the world. The permanent exhibition presents the past of Finnish hockey, some of its most famous teams, and their international accomplishments through audio-visual displays. There are also immersive displays in which visitors can pretend to be a hockey analyst or a player.
  2. Tampere Cathedral

This magnificent Lutheran cathedral dates back to 1907 and is constructed of the iconic Finnish gray granite with a striking red roof. The iridescent gothic frescoes within are especially striking, not just because of their artistic merit, but also because of the controversy surrounding them. When the cathedral opened, many people were upset at the depiction of a serpent on the roof, claiming that it depicted sin and corruption.
  3. Särkänniemi Theme Park

Särkänniemi is something more than just a fun park. It's a whole complex that has days worth of entertainment. There is an aquarium, a planetary, a carnival game area, a popular Näsinneula observation tower, and a daily calendar of events. Amusement Park also includes the world's first Angry Birds theme land.
  4. Moomin Museum

The Moomin Museum honors Finland 's favorite franchise through the collection of Tove Jansson 's drawings and works of art. The piece of resistance in the collection is the famous Moomin House replica, designed by Jansson and her partner Tuulikki Pietilä as a full-scale dollhouse version of Moomin 's home. The café and shop also sell adorable Moomin themed food and merchandise.
  5. Spy Museum

The Spy Museum takes a fun and interesting look at the world of espionage, particularly during the Cold War, with authentic documents telling stories of real life spies. Interactive exhibits, such as the lie detector test, make this an especially fun children's museum.

  7. Duck Park

This very curiously called park next to the Moomin Museum is a perfect place to relax, have a picnic and feed the ducks on the lake or the domestic birds in the aviary. Alternatively, you should walk around to find all the sculptures on display in the park.
  8. Finlayson Church

The Gothic Revival Church of 1879, made of the same red brick as the other industrial buildings that make up Tampere. This is quite apt, since it was initially intended for workers of the Finlayson cotton company, but it is now commonly used by the Lutheran Church. Most prominent of all is the St. Petersburg organ, which dates from the opening of the church.
  9. Alexander Church

One of the most beautiful churches in Tampere, named after Tsar Alexander II. The Gothic-style church again uses red brick and has a green roof tinged with age. Given its grand appearance, the interior is still quiet and soothing. The surrounding gardens and the cemetery also offer a lot of history of the church and a place to relax.
  10. Tampere Mineral Museum

The Vapriikki Mineral Museum is home to a large array of minerals, rocks, jewellery, sea shells, corals, and sculptures from around the world. Particular highlights are meteorite bits, dinosaur eggs, fossils, and stone carvings. It's a perfect museum for those interested in either natural history or art.
  11. Market Hall

No trip to the Finnish city is complete without leaving the market hall. They are a staple of Finnish lives, supplying locally and internationally sourced products to the region for more than 100 years. The Tampere market hall has been opened since 1901 and is the largest covered market in the Nordic countries. It comprises a wide variety of food stalls and cafes and is a especially good place to stop for lunch or meet locals.
